Hello my darlings! How are we this weekend?

It’s the Black Friday weekend, which means I’ll be in the corner of the shop cowering. Well, that might be dramatic, but working in retail always sucks over this weekend. So I hope everyone keeps sane! Although, speaking of Black Friday, Joanie Clothing has 40% off all their dresses. So it’s a perfect time to show off my new favourite dress, the Ozzie Poppy Print Dress!

I went for a late 60s/early 70s style with my Tiggy dress last week, so it was nice to come back to the comfort zone with a 40s styled tea dress! The Ozzie dress comes in this gorgeous poppy print with reds, blues and yellows on a black background. Obviously, I co-ordinated with red, because hello, it’s me. I also wore my We Love Colors Scarlet Red tights because I thought it balanced out the colours. Really, I think a darker red would have worked better in hindsight!

Something that I didn’t go through in my last post is the lining of the dresses from Joanie. Both the Ozzie and Tiggy dresses were fully lined, but I’ll be honest in that I’ve cut the skirt lining out completely. I do this with a lot of my fully lined dresses, because I find the inner skirt is never as full as the outer. I like wearing an underskirt or petticoat to create the right shape, which these linings can make difficult.

The good news with this is, for those that don’t like wearing underskirts, you’re completely catered for!

Why the Ozzie dress?

The thing that got me with this dress is that I knew straight away that it would suit me well, since the neckline is similar to a few dresses I already own. The 40’s V-neck and cap sleeves work really well on my build, and the floral was unlike any other I’d seen before.

The cap sleeves are possibly my favourite feature, and I think this will take me from autumn to spring from now on since the fabric isn’t so heavy! From a light cardigan to a thick jumper, it’ll look great with so many things.

I mentioned last week that Joanie Clothing’s size guide is per item. Which means each dress can fall in different sizes, which is SO helpful for online ordering.

This dress is actually a UK20 since the measurements came up a bigger than the Tiggy. I’m a pretty standard UK22, which is what I’d usually go for, so I’m really glad that the measurements told me to go for the size that fits me perfectly.

And there’s POCKETS!

Of course, one thing that I love about Joanie Clothing is that they understand the struggle when it comes to women’s clothes and pockets. I’m obsessed with pockets in my clothing, to the point that I’m known for my love of them. Everything I’ve ever bought from Joanie has decent pockets, the typer which actually fit things in. And it’s something I love in a brand.

I think the reason I love this dress as much as I do, is actually that it just works so well in my wardrobe. I didn’t have to think about how I was going to style it at all. And I love when that happens, don’t you? Because that’s always the best thing about clothes, when they’re easy to style and implement on a day-to-day, you know you’ve hit a winner.

I styled it with some of my usual accessories, including a gorgeous rose from Lady Luck’s Boutique and black, red and clear bangles from Splendette. I’m tempted to find some powder blue to accessorise with – what colour would you wear with it?
