How are we all? Hopefully winter sadness hasn’t set in for you guys!

Oh my, I tell you what – I’m all over the place since Japan! I need a week off to just work out where the hell I am, I swear! I’ve been acting weirdly since I got back too, either I’m sad or I’m angry — no in-between. But me and my boyfriend went out for a walk before date night cocktails this week, and I thought it was the perfect setting to show off my new Voodoo Vixen Dress!

If you remember back in September (Why does that feel so long ago?) I visited the Voodoo Vixen stall at London Edge, and I posted up a photo of the Olivia dress. I fell in love with the colour and the cowl neck, so of COURSE I was going to review this!

Let’s talk about sizing!

Hooo boy, this could end up being a long one. The short version is it took me four dresses to find one that fit.

The long version is that I took my usual 3XL in Voodoo Vixen Curve to begin with. It does state on the website to size down due to stretch in the fabric, but since my hip size is larger than the their size guide, I didn’t take the risk.
I was surprised to find it was big, though! Actually, way too big!

There’s a whole lot of hip shaping in there on the lower hips/start of the thighs, which is something that I’ve never seen before. I’m always happy to see when brands expand their sizing and actually design with a plus sized body in mind, though!

What size would I recommend?

So I swapped for the 2XL, and was happy that at least there are people sized out of Voodoo Vixen usually would have a chance to wear something from them. And even that turned out to be massive!

I was sent the 1XL in the curve range, as well as the XXL from the straight sizing range. I kept and am wearing the 1XL, but the XXL was not far off, honestly! Which means this runs down at least two sizes small. If you have less tummy than I do, I’d go straight to the third size down, honestly.

Now it might sound like I’m complaining, but I’m really not. It makes me really happy as a plus sized woman to say that actually, larger sizes can easily fit into a dress like this. I’d estimate that at least a UK30 could fit into the 4XL, if not a UK32. And for a pencil dress, I think that’s amazing.

My favourite part of this dress is the cowl neck, it reminds me of an old sweater dress I had as a teenager and wore ’til it fell apart. Funny how clothes invoke that sort of feeling, isn’t it?

But I truly love the dress, for winter there’s nothing better than a cosy dress to throw on in the mornings. Personally, I’d prefer if the sleeves were longer and more fitted. I realise its part of the design, and I’d only roll the sleeves up anyway, but the option of longer sleeves would be nice.

Of course, I accessorised with the Vendula London Winter Cottage backpack, because I; 1. Love this bag shape 2. It goes with literally any outfit 3. It’s just stupidly cute!
