Let’s talk about more sewing!
Now. If you didn’t pay attention to my Instagram last week (or the algorithm has ruined my reach yet again), you may have missed something cool. I got to model again! So here’s a little show-off of me modelling for the Tilly and The Buttons Skye dress! All photography is by Jane Looker.

Tilly and The Buttons Skye Dress
I’ve actually followed Tilly and her company journey since roughly 2011 when I first started getting into sewing for myself. I’ve been sewing since I was 14 years old, but focussed on the designing aspect of clothing whilst I was doing Fashion BTECs and undergrads. Ah, the Andii of my youth, wanting to be a fashion designer. So once I started getting into blogging and sewing more, I found Tilly’s blog. And since then, watched as she grew from a home-sewist into participating on the Great British Sewing Bee. Later on ultimately owning a pattern company and employing wonderful humans to work with her. (Can confirm. The Buttons are amazing!)
So you can imagine that I was absolutely delighted to not only hear that TATB were expanding their size range up to a UK34. But they also wanted ME to model a new pattern for their upcoming release!

TATB Plus Sizes
Tilly started doing a larger size range back in April with the launch of the Lyra dress, which featured the gorgeous Sarah from Songs and Stitches. I loved seeing a larger woman as well as the larger sizing! Representation really matters, since I was easily able to envision how I’d look in the finished style. It’s literally the second time I’ve been able to do that in my 14 years of sewing. Their sizing catered up to a UK24 before – which I honestly didn’t know – but the addition of a plus body really does help when choosing patterns. The plus size band caters sizes 16-34, which is a massive step up! You can read more and how to choose your size band on the Tilly and The Buttons Blog here.

Skye Dress
The Skye dress is a floaty, empire-waisted sundress pattern, that was specifically made for hot sweaty days. We know all about that in London! It has gentle shaping in the bust, but is made to be skin-skimming and loose to keep you comfortable. Empire-waisted with a scooped neckline and three choices of hems, it’s a perfect silhouette for all sorts of fabrics. My samples were made up by The Buttons in a Spoonflower sweet pea gauze and Sew Me Sunshine viscose linen. I personally think that patterns look best in this pattern, what about you?
My personal favourite option is either the midi or mini length with the shoulder ties — look how adorable they are! Not that I’m against the maxi length, of course, but on my own body I like the shorter lengths. I was so jealous of the yellow gingham mini that Averil wore, though. Not only did she look incredible, but I need that gingham!

I’m thinking a black gingham mini Skye with the shoulder ties is on the to-sew list for summer! After a red gingham Lyra and black gingham Roseclair, of course — because I’m predictable!
It was honestly such an honour to mode with The Buttons — so much hard work went into the shoot, but so much fun was had as well! Nikki and Francis were so patient and wonderful cheerleaders, and Jane made you feel so comfortable! I’d honestly recommend applying to model with TATB — especially if you happen to be above a size 24!

So what do we think of the Tilly and The Buttons Skye dress?
