Well hello my darlings! I’m back in business and I’m kicking walls down and pretending to be a superhero this week! Luckily for all of us, that does also mean I’m right back to posting Sunday Style posts. This one is different from my usual style, as I was asked by Rue107 to take some of their dresses for a spin! And today we’re showing you a shocking blue number, the Michelina Dress in Royal Blue!

So Rue107 are an American brand that designs and make all their clothing in New York. The designer is actually Haitian, so you can see a lot of Creole influence in their designs. Not that I’m showing that off, however – because I’m all about plains, haha! They run sizes from a US XS – US 3X (roughly a UK 2 – 26), and heavily feature plus women in their photography. That was one main reason I became attracted to Rue107 – seeing bigger women for me is always so important to gauge my own size, plus it’s always a breath of fresh air.

I mentioned early in the year that I was going to start challenging myself and trying more styles. When I ordered the Michelina dress from Rue107 I knew this would be a tricky one. The colour is DIVINE, don’t get me wrong. I love the bardot neckline, too! However, even though I love a flared skirt, this is roughly ten inches shorter than I’m used to.

I’m serious. What are these blindingly white things? Why is there so much Melody Thigh happening? It scares me. Help.
But I digress. I signed up for a short dress, I can’t complain about it too much longer now, can I?
If you’re in England or know anyone that is, you might know that we’re currently going through a thing called summer. You might also realise that England is not used to summer, especially non-rainy summers. I’ve noticed my body is a little swollen in this weather, so please take that into consideration with this review.

Now, let’s talk about the fit;
Most of the Rue107 garments state they’re true to size. Being pretty on the mark with the 2XL in their sizing chart (48inch bust, 39inch waist, 52inch hips), I really expected this to fit like a glove. What I actually found is that it just ended up just a bit too tight on me. As I mentioned above – maybe I’m a little heat-swollen.
The arms were the hardest part for me, though. Although the fabric has stretch, the arms don’t give too much. So to my fellow big-armed women, size up! I think I’d actually of preferred this without sleeves to balance out the shortness, if I’m honest.

So I’ve complained about the length, but that’s a personal preference to longer skirts. It is actually a full circle skirt, however, and the fabric (100% Polyester, a rayon-like texture) flows in such a lovely way. For my personal shape, I think I should add an underskirt to push out the flare a little more.
To Sum Up The Rue107 Michelina Dress;
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike this dress. I actually love this colour on me (and yes, I am this pale) and I think it just pops with my hair! I just think a little extra ease in the whole of the dress would help the overall fit. I’d say with Rue107, size up for the most comfortable fit.
Let me know what you think, dolls – have you worn anything from Rue107 before? Or what is your favourite piece on their site? Leave a comment!
