The summer may have decided to leave, but we’re all about holding on to whatever sunshine we can here!
Hello friends, and welcome back to the blog and some semi-regular posting! Work and life has been a bit hectic recently, and I’m coming out of a depression fog at the moment. Want to see an amusing Instagram reel of me making fun of my depression? Of course you do! But I digress. Today we’re channelling some summer energy with a gorgeous plus size Dolly and Dotty Gingham Dress!
These photos were actually taken a few weeks back when it was so hot it felt like trying to photograph myself in the depths on Mordor. I had the edit all the face sweat from these photos, because I definitely cannot take the heat in this country. Nothing but real content here, guys! I could do with a few sunny days again, though. The rain and grey skies are a bit too much in August, honestly.
Dolly and Dotty Annie Dress
My last post was about the Amanda style that Dolly and Dotty use, and my last Annie post was in 2017. It’s one of those styles that you see a lot in vintage reproduction since it suits most body types. Sleeveless, for use with or without cardigans or boleros, and a simple rounded neckline. Oh yeah. And POCKETS. I’m not much of a fan of sleeveless dresses these days honestly, but that green gingham was too good to pass up! Dolly and Dotty have a bunch of gingham dresses in different styles and colours — and almost all in their current sale!
I mentioned in my last post that I’m a massive fan of pleated skirts, and love that the newer Annie dresses have them. I find that a pleated skirt always looks nice, regardless of wearing with or without a petticoat — although I am wearing my trusty Banned petticoat that I’ve had for years and still looks good as new!
Unlike the Amanda dress with the Strawberry print, this gingham is a 100% woven cotton! Even in the depths of Mordor, this dress kept me as cool and I could possibly be. Which isn’t too much (seriously, it was hot as balls), but little victories, my friends.
For sizing — I took the UK22 as usual, and honestly I should have known to size up, since this is a 100% cotton with no stretch, and the bust is TIGHT. Unless you’re small-chested, I’d recommend a size up in any dresses from Dolly and Dotty without stretch for this reason. It’s not exactly the worst fit, but would be just a touch more comfortable had I gone for the UK24.
