I wish I knew where the year has gone!
Sup friends! How are we all doing? It’s suddenly May, and I honestly don’t know what I’ve done with the year so far. May happens to be my favourite month of the year, though! Spring is well underway, the weather gets a bit nicer and nature comes back to life. It also happens to be Me Made May, a sewing community challenge. Oh, and the end of the month is my Birthday, too. Add the 31st to those diaries, folks! I want birthday cards ;). But now, let’s focus on some outfits and Me Made May 2021, yes?
Now. I love Me Made May, I love showing off my handmade outfits, I love seeing everyone else’s more. Do I ever remember to do the whole thing correctly and pledge before the month begins on So, Zo…’s blog? Of course not, that would indicate organisation and planning. And this year feels a little harder than previous years (yes, even harder than last year) mainly because… well, nothing fits me. My arse has certainly grown over lockdown, and I doubt about 80% of my handmade items are even wearable now.
So Melody, are you joining Me Made May 2021?
Kinda! I’ve not officially pledged, but basically my challenge this year is to just wear whatever handmade items fit me at the moment. Some of my favourite ever me-made clothing is just off the table now (RIP to the loudest yellow gingham dress), but I’ll still try and wear whatever I can fit my arse into. Will it cause me mental anguish and self loathing? We’ll see. And if it does, I’ll simply stop — I’m not going to torture my post-pandemic body for surviving a year of not killing other people.

Dress; Gertie’s Cinch-It Dress (Blog Post)
This dress is in heavy rotation these days, as it’s so simple to wear and fits regardless of weight fluctuations, which is awesome. I really need to get my butt in gear and make a few other versions!

Skirt; Self-Drafted Dirndl Skirt (Blog Post)
Okay, the gingham was an accident. I promise. Most of what I make is gingham, so don’t be too surprised.

Skirt; Upcycled Half-Circle Skirt (Blog Post)
Are you participating in Me Made May 2021?
I’d love to hear what your pledges are, or if you’re interested in sewing at all!
