I had such an amazing time at The Enfield Pageant back in May! One of my favourite parts, however, was meeting David and Andrew, the master coiffeurs behind The House Of Drewvid! I was lucky enough to have my hair cut and styled by David (I originally put Andrew, sorry David!) and he was so kind to offer me a selection of their gorgeous products to try out!
House Of Drewvid are a team of hair stylists, with a massive background in cinema. Basically, if there’s any vintage-inspired hair in a film, these guys have probably been involved! They also have a little range of styling products inspired by vintage recipes. And I mean, how gorgeous is the packaging?

Straight Hair Styled with House of Drewvid Products!
Since my last haircut, I’ve been looking after my hair as much as possible, which means I end up with straight hair a lot more often. I mostly use heat setting to get my signature pageboy style with a hell of a lot of backcombing, and it’s kinda killing my hair – oops!
So who’s ready to see some pictures of me doing my hair whilst pretending I’m not posing in a sweaty room? All of you, right?
So we’re getting right into it! The Marcel Spray is a light spray that works perfectly for using in sets. It’s got a great hold without being sticky or drying, which is why it’s so good with a light styling like this!
I simply section my hair in two, and spray a light coating over the section I’m working on. Just enough that the hair feels like there’s moisture on it, but not wet. Give it a brush through and we’re golden. Double up with a heat protection spray. I use Tresemmé, simply because I’ve always used it.
So. I realise I said I was looking after my hair and not using too much heat, but straightening at 130 degrees isn’t going to harm it too much once or twice a week. Right? I’ll pretend that’s the case.
So my daily straight-style hair is early 60s inspired, it’s not quite a bob, but definitely shorter and straighter than 50s styling leads to. The straightening means I can help a little curl along the ends to bring the hair in at the neck. This can also be done when your hair is almost air-dried without the straighteners!
As soon as the section of hair comes out of the straightener, I roll it on up in a velcro roller! These are from Primark because I’m cheap, but you can get velcro rollers literally anywhere guys! I’m using ‘Medium’ sizes (2inch) for the majority of my hair. If you’ve ever looked into different ways of curling your hair, you’ve definitely used these before. If you haven’t – velcro rollers are no good at curling, but do add a level of natural volume that is insane.
The Marcel Spray just helps that style and volume hold. I find that my hair has the curl for days with this!
Apparently in this before and after I gain a few chins.
But as you can see, there’s volume and a little bit of curl in the bottom. I leave the curlers in for anywhere between half an hour to two hours. It’s great for keeping your hair out of your face when you’re doing makeup!
There’s no particular setting pattern I use for this, but I try and keep the sides going horizontal and the front on a 45degree angle.
Backcombing is something I have a hard time giving up. I love volume! It’s not as heavy as I go when I’m vintage setting. But it gives my roots the height I need to create my ideal shape.
And then it’s time for some Gloss Pomade! Pomade is actually a relatively new thing in my hairstyling arsenal. I used it maybe once in the past. As you can imagine, that did NOT go well. Talk about greasy!
But the House of Drewvid Gloss Pomade is really lightweight, and it smells gorgeous. I use the tiniest amount (literally pea-size) rubbed together in my hands. The Gloss Pomade isn’t super shiny, but it adds a sheen whilst taming some of the humidity frizz.
I then use the Lustre Spray as a finishing spray. Lustre smells like marzipan, and I LOVE it. There’s a little shine in there, too. My boyfriend often uses it on his beard when it’s looking a little lifeless, too!
I finish with a touch more of the Marcel Spray for a little hold. It’s perfect for my straight styles as it’s flexible and allows my hair to move and be touched, however!
