Colourful Plus Size Tights with Snag Tights

melody mae

Happy Weekend Friends!

Hopefully you’re all enjoying the long bank holiday. Happy Easter to those that celebrate it, and happy Passover to those that celebrate that! Here in the UK it’s getting a bit warmer, and honestly yesterday was my first tights-free day of the year. However, we have one last pair of Snag Tights to show off today. We all know that warmth in the UK isn’t going to last, so here’s some colourful plus size tights to keep the summer vibes all year long!

snag tights

I make no secret of my love for reds and blues. Red and navy especially is my favourite colour combination. It’s a combination that I often only wear in the summer, however. I rarely have a chance to play with colours in the winter, since most tights accessible in my size are black. And I love black, don’t get me wrong, but I’d love to be a bit brighter and be warm at the same time!

colourful plus size tights

Since the weather has been picking up recently, I’ve been dying to wear some of my navy clothes. This skirt in particular, which I made a few years ago, is desperately unloved the majority of the year! So when these colourful plus size tights from Snag was in my little parcel, I was so excited. I get to wear navy and red and not freeze — what a novel idea!

Sizing

The Shepherd’s Delight tights from Snag Tights are pretty much the same as the black ones I talked about the other week. They are the ‘F’ sizing, which is exactly the same as all three pairs I was gifted. And lo and behold, they fit perfectly again! The waistband stays put, there’s no crotch wandering, and they’re wonderfully comfortable.

I have yet to wear these during actual winter, I realise. But at the same time, on a chilly, windy day, these kept me toasty warm.

snag tights shepherds delight

I’ve been raving about these tights for the last few weeks, and I’ve been recommending them to anyone who has issues with tights. I can’t recommend these tights enough, to the point where I’m annoyed if I’m wearing my old faithful ASOS tights.

And they seem to be rolling out different colours periodically, so I’m sure you’re going to find the perfect pair for every outfit you have! I’ve definitely got my eyes on the bottle green, mustard and navy colours for my next purchase.

melody mae

I really love how colourful plus size tights make an outfit pop. This casual outfit for messing around Blue House Yard and eating Mexican food was totally upgraded with them. And I love how that can diversify different outfits from just wearing plain black ones.

So what are you waiting for?

Soho Slinging with Snag Tights

snag tights

Happy Saturday! It’s Tights Time Again!

Yeah, okay, we thought we’d talked about tights enough last week. But I did mention that I had three pairs of tights gifted to me by Snag Tights. Last week was some plain black tights, but this week is all about patterned ones. And I’ve got clothes on this time!

snag tights

I’m trying to push myself out of my comfort zone a lot at the moment with style, because I’m in a bit of a rut recently. Not that a pencil skirt is particularly uncomfortable for me, but with being a bit mentally skew-iff it feels it. I’ve been getting a bit self conscious recently, so having a wander around Soho in the rain was pushing it a little.

Saying that though — goddamnit I love this outfit! The little top is from Primark, and my skirt is the best £5 I’ve spent on Boohoo. It’s just a really good skirt that looks good with so many things, I’m wearing it regularly at the moment.

snag tights

So what’s the significance of Snag Tights on this post, Melody?

Glad you asked, body-less reader! I’m actually wearing the Diamond Age tights with this outfit, although from far away you wouldn’t particularly notice.

I took the same size for these (F) that I did with the plain black tights from last week’s post. I mentioned briefly in that post that the plain tights fit wonderfully, but purposely left out these babies. I’m sneaky like that.

snag tights

So looking at the page for these tights, off the bat I think I should’ve sized down. Unlike the product page, the diamonds aren’t as visible or prominent as the site model. Since she’s smaller than me, I can’t imagine that they’re too small for me.

This makes a lot of sense, because unlike their plain counterparts, these like to roll down! It was a little disappointing, because last week’s pair were so comfortable that I genuinely forgot I had tights on. Sadly these ones needed to be hiked up a lot — and you can tell in some of the photos. When you’re wearing a pencil skirt with a tummy like mine, having your tights cut you up across the belly isn’t ideal.

plus size tights

None of this is to take away from how great the tights are in general, however. They’re still soft, still matte, and the gussets, waistband and seams are all incredibly comfortable. A lot of people commented about worries with chub rub and tights, and I can honestly recommend that these don’t do that, even if they are too big!

I’m still wearing them, because even with needing to hike them up, Snag Tights have become my absolute favourites! I might have to get the size down and an extra pair of the wave tights, because having some patterned black tights can really add a little extra flare to a typically ‘boring’ outfit.

melody mae

Sizing Suggestions for Snag Tights?

Snag are doing some pretty great things, clearly. Their plain tights are absolutely spot-on with sizing, but definitely size down in the patterned tights to get the best fit. It’ll show them off the best, too!

Proper Plus Sized Tights with Snag Tights

plus size tights

Hi strangers!

I’ve been missing for a few weeks dealing with life (More of that to come in a later post) but today I’m back with a short little review, which is all to do with plus size tights! And it means I’m in my knickers again!

snag tights

Tights are one thing that is just incredibly difficult when you’re plus size. They’re also difficult if you’re tall, small, if you have bigger thighs than calves, a bigger belly… Okay, tights are a nightmare for all of us. Personally my issues are that my stomach and thighs are large, yet my calves are thin in comparison. Oh, and at 5’7″ I’m “tall” for a plus woman.

Now, usually plus tights have this problem that they either stretch to height or they stretch to width. They aren’t made to fit both. And if you have a small waist? You’ll be tying them up to keep them up.

snag tights

However, I was lucky enough to work with Snag Tights, a company that produce tights designed to fit. Knowing that people are all sorts of sizes, shapes and combinations, they had 3D stretch that means that they actually fit. Add to that, a size guide that allows for fuller figures. I love that!

snag tights

So, do they fit?

Snag gifted me three pairs of their tights to review, two classic pairs of 80 Denier in red and black, and a pair of the Diamond Age patterned tights. I went for the F size, since I’m always considering my hips to be at least two sizes bigger than my dress size.

And I was pleasantly happy to find that in the plain tights, these fit perfectly. The sort of perfectly that makes you forget you’re wearing tights. Honestly, I’ve worn them all week to test them out, and they’re just terrific. No pulling up necessary at all!

plus size tights

They’re super stretchy, but don’t stretch out over the day of wearing them. And that waistband stays strong and stays put! As you can see, I’m pretty impressed!

The tights are decently opaque, fit my tummy well without shifting, and they’re a matte finish. Personally I prefer this to silk-feel tights, and you can bet I’ll be buying more pairs in the future! The most important part is that neither my stiletto nails, nor my corset have caused these babies to ladder.

£6.99 for a pair of tights might feel steep to some, especially those that are accustomed to buying cheap pairs from Primark. But I promise you, Snag Tights are completely worth £7. They are going to last an age, and with a range of colours and sizes to choose from, I’d say you deserve to treat yourself to a pair!

More Knickers with Revival Lingerie

revival lingerie

Happy Saturday friends!

How are we all doing? I’ve honestly had a weird week, and I’m ready for it to end. But today I’m showing off another little set from Revival Lingerie, so hold onto your hats guys, the back rolls are back!

revival lingerie

So after my last post from Revival Lingerie, I got a wonderful response from people. It’s not a concern for me to open up about my mental health or my issues with my body, as we know. But standing in my underwear was genuinely terrifying. But I faced the fear, and I was lucky enough to only receive one string of bad comments.

Now, I realise that to many, you might think I’m asking for my body to be critiqued by posting these photos. If you’re here to tell me I’m glorifying obesity — I’d suggest you leave. My body is not to be commented on, this is just for illustration of the underwear of which I’m reviewing. It’s to help others find nice knickers, purely.

revival lingerie

Plus, you know what I AM glorifying? My own body, and my body only. If it helps other people find underwear or strength to love themselves, then I’ve done more than my job. No one is going to gain a load of weight to look like me, but they might just realise that their body is absolutely fine the way it is.

But I digress — let’s talk about knickers, right?

plus size bullet bra
plus size lingerie

008 Lightly Padded Satin Cup Bra

In my last review I mentioned how the circle-stitched bullet bra wasn’t quite my shape, since my breasts aren’t quite full enough to fit them. The remedy to that? This subtly pointed bra!

It has a slightly more rounded point to the cups, so it’s a better option for newbies and weird busts like mine! But it also means this bra isn’t as tight on the top of the bust, which makes it so much more comfortable. It doesn’t look or feel as tight as the other style, too.

The same with the 030 bra from the last post, I’m wearing a 38D due to the 38E being too large in the cups. However, this one is a much better fit for me. The band is still too tight — but the good news is that Revival Lingerie will be bringing some more band sizes too!

plus size french knickers
plus size vintage lingerie

073 Stretch Satin French Knickers

I love french knickers. They look so comfortable and classy… on anyone but me. This is the second pair of french knickers I’ve tried, and they really aren’t for me at all.

Not that they’re not comfortable and soft — because they’re pretty lovely to wear, and the lace isn’t scratchy at all! But sadly the shape of french knickers in general just does nothing for me. I feel like I’m wearing boxing shorts from the 40s, but I also happen to be Danny DeVito.

I took the 5XL in these, and I’d size down according to your hip size, since the waist is very generous!

melody mae

So between this post and my last post, my thoughts on Revival Lingerie are as thus; they’re a great value brand for any of your vintage-styled underwear needs.
Beginners will find great styles to ease them into foundation garments; I recommend the 008 bra or the 018 bra, the 067 briefs and 064 6 strap suspender belt.

Old hats will find some great value pieces that work well for everyday wear; I recommend the 030 bra, the 031 power net girdle and the 81 power net suspender belt.

What are your thoughts on vintage inspired lingerie? Do you wear it? Find it uncomfortable? Tell me your stories in the comments!

Last Days of Winter — Banned Sally Swing Dress

melody mae

Well. Winter is apparently not over yet!

We had a week of warm weather in England, and there’s swimsuits in stores already, but let’s honest here — it’s kinda still winter. And although I’m gagging for some real sunshine, it does mean I get to wear this dress more! I mentioned that my last review was missing the Banned Sally Swing Dress, but it deserved it’s own post!

banned apparel

Now. I live in England, which is infamous for it’s long, fair winters and particularly bland weather. This is certainly true —

melody mae

Sleeves

When I saw the Sally dress back at London Edge in September, the first thing that got me was the sleeves. I love sleeves in my winter dresses, but without stretch fabrics, larger arms can be difficult to fit. Although it’s a winter dress, I feel like the split sleeves of this dress work really well to fit a range of arm sizes.

My favourite way to wear this is having the sleeves hiked up a bit to create little princess-style cap sleeves! If I had some tattoos on my arm, it would be a cute way to frame them!

banned sally dress

Sizing

My Banned dresses, including my last dress review, are a 3XL, so I decided to stay with the same size for this dress. As this is a woven polyester, there’s little to no stretch. However, no stretch isn’t always a bad thing! It fits pretty well!

I will say, I’ve actually taken the lining out of this dress. I have a real problem with linings in dresses with most companies, honestly. The linings are usually the completely wrong fabric to suit the outer fabric, and it causes a lot of distortion. This dress was sadly that kind, and when I first put it on the bodice was all contorted. Luckily I knew straight away that it was the lining (Hooray sewing knowledge), so it came out fairly quickly. I cut the whole thing out and suddenly the bust sat correctly.

Side from that — it fits well! There’s not much room in the dress, the bodice is just big enough to fit my bust. So size up if you’re full busted!

melody mae

Since I took the lining out, I could also use the full volume of the dress and wear a petticoat! The Lifeforms petticoat I had from my last post on Banned is still going strong. However, since it’s dropped a little over time (I wear this a lot), it’s the perfect volume for this!

The Banned Sally Swing dress is a great little dress though, the colours are gorgeous, perfect from autumn to winter… Or spring, if you’re from England.

Get Yer Kit Off with Revival Lingerie

revival lingerie

Warning; Knickers are present. As are back rolls.

Hey friends! I’ve had a weird week again IRL (someone forgot to renew her medication so she’s in withdrawal, it’s hell), but online I’ve have the best week. On the back of my last post, I wanted to spread a little love on Instagram — and the response was lovely. If you get a second, please do add a comment on what you love about yourself on this post. I think it’s important to take time out to give yourself some love. And again off the back of that last post, I’m doing the most terrifying post I’ve done to date. I was given an amazing selection of vintage-style lingerie from Revival Lingerie!

revival lingerie

Welcome to my fat body in some great pants, guys!

Please note before we get into the review, I was sent a selection of lingerie by Revival Lingerie for the purpose of reviewing. All my opinions on the lingerie is my own.

Underwear is often a difficult thing for plus size women. For me in particular, I prefer high-waited knickers, and I have relatively small breasts for the size of the band I wear. Underwear can be a nightmare — let alone finding something that has a retro feeling to it! However, Revival Lingerie has come along to bring the classics back!

revival lingerie

030 Bullet Bra

Goddamnit, I love a bullet bra. I’ve had a thing for the pointed styles of the 1950s for a long time. I can’t pinpoint exactly why, but it must have something to do with how amazing they look under jumpers!

My usual bra size is a 40D, which is a size that Revival Lingerie don’t currently do. However, sister sizing exists — so originally I took this bra in the 38E. I ended up swapping for a 38D in the bullet bra, because my poor breasts were never going to fill those cups. My breasts aren’t particularly full, so there is a possibility that’s my issue rather than the brands. I’m actually wearing some pad inserts to help the shape a bit.

plus size vintage lingerie

I think it’s safe to say — after a few bullet bras I’ve owned — that this style is sadly not for me. I love the bra, the quality is great for the price, and the satin is really silky soft. But sadly, I think it just sits oddly on me, and no adjusting really made this style work for me. There’s a possibility it’s because the sizing isn’t quite right — and I’d love to see larger band sizes from Revival Lingerie in the future — or that my tits just won’t be perky and pointed!

The 030 Bullet Bra comes in red, white and black in back sizes 30-38 and cup sizes B-G.

plus size lingerie

067 Stretch Satin Full Brief

I haven’t worn a pair of knickers that doesn’t sit at my natural waist in years, honestly. They just fit better on me! I have a really full tummy, and generally I stay away from anything that isn’t a cotton jersey since it pulls the front down often. There’s nothing wrong with this of course, just my personal aesthetic preference.

This happens with these briefs, since the front panel is stretch satin which often doesn’t have the 4-way stretch of my usual pants. They’re not uncomfortable, though, even with the dipping in the front.

plus size lingerie

The back is my favourite, though! I’ve been looking for a good pair of sheer knickers for a while, so now I know these fit me I’ll be buying a few pairs of their fully sheer style soon!

I took the 5XL in these — the biggest size — and they fit true to size with a good amount of stretch.

The 067 Full Briefs come in cream, white, black and red in sizes XS – 5XL.

plus size vintage lingerie

087 12 Strap Lace Panel Suspender Belt

Any suspender belt with over 8 straps give my heart a little boner. As a woman with thick-ass thighs and a distinct lack of good plus stockings, I really appreciate the staying power of a 12-strap. Honestly, these things will not budge, which is great since it takes half an hour to attach your stockings.

Now, since I ordered the knickers in a 5XL, I decided to order the suspender belt in the same size. I suggest ordering a size down from your underwear size. Nothing can contain my sadness when I realise this is just a little bit too big to be useful on a day-to-day basis.

plus size suspender belt

You can see in some of these photos that the suspender belt is slipping down already. A size down would make sure it sits in the sweet spot on my waist. And I reckon, since this feels incredibly robust, that it wouldn’t move. Of course for aesthetics sake, I’m wearing this outside my knickers, which I wouldn’t do usually, but it does look cuter!

The 087 Lace Panel Suspender Belt comes in black, red and white in sizes XS – 5XL.

melody mae

Overall?

Revival Lingerie do great quality lingerie at really good prices, and I would happily recommend them to casual 50s lingerie wearers and experienced wearers alike! Just be aware that the bullet bras come up a cup size too big, and the suspender belts work better at a smaller size, and you’re all good!

Pretty Kitty with a Banned Cardigan

melody mae

Hey Strangers!

I’ve been straight up crap with blogging recently — I’m working more hours since I got a promotion, and it’s really hard getting the balance right! But never mind the doom and gloom, the sun’s been making an appearance recently, and I’m enjoying wearing shorter sleeves and not freezing! So it’s a perfect time to show off my new Banned Cardigan, right?

FYI, since we’re being more transparent on Instagram lately, I thought I’d extend this to the blog. The cardigan featured in this post was gifted, and some of the links throughout are affiliate links. However, everything I mention is my own thoughts and feelings. You can read more about this on my Disclaimer page.

banned cardigan

I mentioned I’m a bit unbalanced, right? Well this was supposed to be a full outfit review. I received a gorgeous dress and cardigan to show off this week. However you may notice that I’m not wearing that particular dress in these photos. In fact, I’m actually wearing an old handmade dress I rediscovered recently.

So where’s the dress? Well, I went away to my boyfriend’s place for the weekend — and managed to momentarily lose it. Turns out I’d left it at work, so I thought I’d style the cardigan up without it, and I’ll show you the dress soon!

melody mae

banned cat cardigan

Let’s talk Cat Cardigans!

The Banned Cardigan I’m wearing is the re-imagining of their popular Meow Dress and Snow Bird Shirt. I’m never usually attracted to prints with animals in, but I really couldn’t resist this one. Plus, having bracelet-length sleeves means it’s perfect for the winter-spring transition!

I have a Banned Cardigan already, which I posted in a style post here, and I loved the quality. I’m a big fan of embroidered knitwear as it is, and I’m particular about how they feel. Thankfully this one is just as soft and luscious on!

melody mae

What about fit?

I chose a 2XL in the Cat Cardigan, which is a size up from the Cosmetic cardigan I have. The fit is good around the bust, but I do find that Banned really cater for bigger arms! Great for girls with bigger arms, of course — but for me, I really wish it was just a touch tighter in the arms and the shoulders. It has this lovely princess-esque detailing on the sleeve, which is a style that really works with my shoulders well, though!

Then of course, there’s a playful little kitty on the front. I’ve worn this a lot since it arrived, and people always comment on it. I have a great collection of embroidered cardigans, but I really feel this one stands out in its simplicity. Also, it’s cute as fuck. The cat silhouette going into the scalloped edging is perfect!

banned cardigan
melody mae

Of course, it’s not a Melody outfit without a Vendula bag, right? This is the mini satchel bag from the new Post Box collection — such a sweet little bag that really helps the red in my outfit pop, right?

The Cat Banned Cardigan comes in four colours in sizes XS – 4XL, which you can buy directly from Banned’s website. I’d recommend going by bust sizes more than anything else, and if you’re smaller-busted to go down a size for a tight fit.

What do you think about this cat cardigan? Yay or nay? How would you wear it?

A Post Office Trip with a Vendula London Backpack

vendula post office

Hi guys!

It’s Saturday and that means STYLE time! I missed out last week because I’ve not been in the best place — but I’m diving back in. And it’s been a while since I properly featured a Vendula London bag, right? I will be showing you my favourites from the new season as soon as we have all the styles in, of course. But for now I wanted to show you my new favourite bag — the Vendula London backpack in the Post Office design!

vendula post office

When I mentioned my Winter Cottage backpack a few months back, I didn’t really take the time to talk about how amazing this bag is, did I? We started bringing out the Vendula London backpack styles last season, and I feel like I’m going to end up with so many of these bags, as they’re so useful!

This bag isn’t just a backpack though. Oh no, Vendula London never go by halves when it comes to their styles! It’s actually a bag that you can use four ways, thanks to the adjustable straps.

vendula post office
vendula post office

So today I wanted to show off the different ways you can wear this bag! The Post Office design is my current favourite for this season, it’s a great colour that’ll take you throughout the year, and there’s such adorable features on it. A beagle posting a letter? Genius!

Over-The-Shoulder

vendula backpack

The over-the-shoulder way is actually the way I most frequently wear this style, as I can adjust the strap to sit anywhere I’d like under my arm. If I’m feeling protective, the handle goes quite short to keep it close to me, and it means I can wear it comfortably even with a coat on.

Crossbody

vendula london

One thing that really attracted me to Vendula London to begin with is that the majority of their bags come with crossbody straps. It’s something that my customers love, too — since it means when you get too tired of lugging a bag around, simply extend the strap and it’s easier to carry.

Handheld

vendula post office backpack

The addition of the handle at the top of the Vendula London backpack is great, because it also means you can use the bag as a handheld grab bag when you want to be fancier.

Backpack

vendula london post office backpack

And of course, you have the two adjustable straps in order to use the bag as a backpack! It’s a really light bag, even when it’s full of my crap, so you barely notice you’re wearing it. That is, of course, until someone stops you in the street to ask where your bag is from. And this will happen!

vendula backpack

I’ve used this bag a few times now, plus I’ve had my Winter Cottage version for a while, and it’s quickly taken over the grab bag style as my favourite. The versatility makes it so useful, and there’s no compromise on style!

The Shopfront Backpack style comes in a few different designs (and more to come!), head over to their site and let me know your favourite one!

Comfort AND Style with Retro Peaches

retro peaches

Happy Saturday!

How are we? Having a good weekend? I’ve been at work all weekend on my own so it’s been busy, especially since I’ll be at The Chicken Shack’s birthday Monster Mash tonight! But I digress, none of that is quite as important as the Retro Peaches dress I’m showing off today!

retro peaches

Have heard of Retro Peaches before? If you haven’t, you’re really missing out on an amazing small business! As a plus size woman who sews simply because it’s often difficult to find vintage styles in my size and affordability. So I love brands that are just kickass women deciding to create and share that with others. Mandy, a plus size vintage fan and burlesque performer (Follow her here) has done just that, and the outcome is amazing.

retro peaches
retro peaches molly

I mentioned Retro Peaches back in my Autumn Clothing Wishlist, in which I included the dress I eventually was kindly gifted for review! We all know I love blues and greens, so teal just made so much sense, right?

One thing I mentioned was that all of Retro Peaches clothing is made from stretch fabrics. There’s no zips or buttons, just slip on and slip off. It turns out that Mandy works in dance wear, so she wanted the ease of dancers clothing in a vintage style.

retro peaches molly

How is the sizing?

First off, Retro Peaches go from an XS – 4XL, which is incredible for a one-woman brand. Personally, based on the measurements on the size guide, I took the Molly Dress in 3XL. Let me tell you guys, this dress is the PERFECT size. Sure, because of the stretch I could size down, but the 3XL is comfortable and fits without gaping or pinching.

retro peaches
retro peaches

My favourite element is the neckline and sleeves. I love princess necklines, and I love little puff sleeves. So together they make me so happy! And since we mentioned the stretch fabric earlier — these sleeves have so much stretch. I’m not even kidding when I say that I could comfortably fit three times my upper arms in the sleeve. Big armed girls — the search for puff sleeves that don’t cut into your arms is OVER!

Styling wise, it means that you can style the dress on or off the shoulder, which I think really changes the mood of the dress entirely. I can’t wait to wear this all year long!

retro peaches
melody mae

The Molly Dress is honestly the most comfortable dress I’ve ever owned. I’ve worn it three times since it arrived and I could’ve walked around naked for all I knew. Getting it on and off is so easy since there’s no zip, and I think this could be a great place to shop for those who are less able that find modern vintage difficult to work with.

You can buy Molly in teal or burgundy on the Retro Peaches site, or keep an eye on their Facebook and Instagram for their incoming SS19 collection!

New Year, Same Old Plus Size Style

rubyleashop

Well hello and happy new year, friends!

It’s now 2019, and we’re well into being bombarded with the usual bullshit. I don’t know about you, but I get bored of seeing adverts for gyms and diet groups every January. And the phrase “New Year, New Me” just makes me roll my eyes. Although the start of a new year is often a good push to start new and better habits, the expectation is always tough. So before I get into some plus size style today, I want to take a second to say some things;

Everything that you are right now is great. You don’t need to lose weight. You don’t need to be organised. And you certainly don’t need to be rising to expectations that anyone other than you choose. Resolutions are bullshit, as we are all so often forced to set unobtainable goals. The last few years I’ve opted out of “Resolutions” in order to not set myself up for failure. I hope you guys will, too!

plus size style

New Years Resolutions? No Thanks.

I’ve set no goals for my year. I have things that will be happening in 2019, of course. In the summer I’ll be moving in with my boyfriend, and I’ll possibly work on a different career path. Hell, I’m brushing up on my Japanese, too. But none of this I’m sticking under the “resolutions” tab, because I’m not going to pressure myself into constantly feeling like I’m not achieving enough.

I took a bit of a break from social media as well as blogging over the Christmas/New Year break, which this ties in with. As everyone was telling the world the great things they want to do with their year, I wanted to distance myself enough to not compare myself to others. I mentioned in an Instagram post about how the end of year always makes me feel like I’m not doing enough to be more like my peers. And that little break really helped me out with feeling better about who I am and what I’m doing.

plus size style

So what was that about plus size style?

Okay, okay, there’s one thing I want to do more these days. I’ve found myself in a bit of a rut with my everyday style, so on my days off I’m trying to dress up a bit more. And since my boyfriend got a shiny new camera for Christmas, I also want to document more everyday outfits. Instead of just showing off sponsored items, you know.

So in that spirit, I dressed up my favourite everyday skirt with a new-to-me cardigan for Sunday lunch. Sadly, Earl Haig Hall which featured in an old blog post closed this past Sunday, so we said farewell with a roast dinner and some pints.

rubyleashop

In my last post I mentioned Rubylea turbans, and this time I’m showing off my custom-made Carmen turban. I’m going to say right off the bat that this turban is a lifesaver at the moment! Recently, I’ve been fading my hair colour out to get a refresh and root lift, and my poor hair is going blonde in places! So I’ve been spending a lot of time hiding it in hats and turbans.

What I love about this particular turban is how the Carmen has so much volume. It’s amazing that something so simple can make such a statement! Even though my hair is unset and faded to peach, I still look super fancy.

rubyleashop

My Carmen turban was lovingly custom made by Rubylea to compliment my hair, as this style usually cascades over the right side of the face, rather than the left. At first I wasn’t sure it would make a difference, but believe me when I say it does! Having it on the opposite side of your hair parting means it leaves way for lovely side swoops like this one. Although it also works amazingly if you go for a 60s-style fringe set close to your face.

If you part your hair to left like me, simply send her a message to get your custom turban! They’re SO worth it. I’m constantly wearing mine, and you’ll probably see more of it before winter is through!

melody mae

I feel like this has been a ranty sort of start to the year, but at the same time – I think as I get closer to 30, I’ve lost a lot of the fucks I used to have to give. The only thing I can say that comes close to resolutions for me is that I just want to work hard, play hard, and fight for my happiness over others more this year. I’m kicking arse and taking names at the moment!

So guys. Tell me in the comments not only how you feel about this banging turban, but your thoughts on new years resolutions. Do you subscribe to the idea? Or is it balls to it all? I’d love to know.
